All Quiet Around BT4

Shhhhh… exams in progress.

That’s what you an expect to hear this week outside the BT block as our year 12 students participate in second semester exams.

So far, students have been quite respectful on campus in between classes. We are hoping that this decorum continues for the remainder of the week.

This morning, 3A/B English students sit their exams, while later on this afternoon the 2A/B English class will complete theirs.

Fashion Assembly Tomorrow

It’s Spring – birds are chirping, skies are blue (sort of) and the weather is getting warmer (well, again sort of).

Spring means one thing at BCC: The Fashion Parade is here! Thursday’s assembly marks another year that Fashion students will be showcasing a year of work for the entire college community to see.

This years parade promises to be spectacular and a great example of the excellent work that our students are capable of.

The assembly begins period 2.

Music Extravaganza Marks Spring

The annual Belmont City College Spring Concert Series begins next week. This year, attendees are in for a treat of eclectic musical stylings ranging from African drumming beats to hard rock.

The series, set to begin on Wednesday the 16th, is the product of months of hard work and preparation by music students at BCC and within the community, all headed by Miss Savanna Griechen who has worked tirelessly to ensure that this concert is the best we have seen yet.

“I’m very proud of the effort that my students have put in over the term.” Griechen responded positively when asked about the preparations that her department had put into the showcase.

“They have a chance now to show BCC and the community what they are capable of as young musicians. They are performing to a standard that would make any music teacher proud.”

The series, which runs on Wednesday and Thursday of week 9, is running very different shows on both nights.

Audiences on Wednesday night can expect to see the Senior and Junior concert bands performing. The bands are comprised of students from within Belmont City College and 70 students from the college’s feeder primary schools.

Lots of theme music from classics such as Rocky and the Phantom of the Opera will be played, as well as a special guest performance from the Southlake Concert Band.

Thursday night is slightly different with an African Drumming performance from the year 8 music students followed up by a rock show from Abusive Honour, BCC’s contemporary rock band. They will be performing covers from Greenday, AC/DC and The Killers. There will also be solo singing performances on the evening.

Tickets for the event are on sale. Adults can expect to pay just $7, while students and concession card holders will pay $4. $20 will get you a family pass.

Fashionistas on Showcase

The glitz, the glamour, and yes; the display of so much of the creative design talent of our students here at BCC.

Just like every year, 2009 will host the Belmont City College Fashion Parade where staff, students and proud parents will all get to see a showcase of themed clothing designs from Fashion students.

Keen fashionistas from years 9 to 12 have been working tirelessly to create some of the most stunning apparel to date, making 2009 a must-see year for the parade.

Without giving too much away regarding this years themes for the show, we can honestly say that they are amongst the most original to be seen yet.

The fashion parade will take place on Thursday 18th of September during the full-school assembly in the gym.

16 Year Old Sets Sail For Epic Voyage

4149937122

A 16 year old Queensland student has set herself a task of extraordinary proportions: to sail around the world unassisted.

Jessica Watson set sail from the Sunshine Coast in what will be a 10 day solo non-stop voyage to Sydney. It is from the harbour city that she will begin her voyage in what will be a world record.

Watson, who has been sailing since she was 8, believes that she can break the previous record by April 2010.

The record has changed recently. In 1999, fellow Aussie, Jesse Martin, took the record by sailing around the world at the age of 18 in a trip that took 328 days.

That record was since smashed by 17 year old Mike Perham from England only last month.

Film Festival to hit BCC

Aspiring young filmmakers from all over the college are about to complete or get started on a number of short films.

The Belmont City College Film Festival is running in the first two weeks of term 4 and preparations are well underway for, what will hopefully become, an annual event on the college calendar.

The festival, open to all students and staff members, not only media students, is a fortnight long event with screenings to take place during recess and lunch from the first Tuesday back right through to Thursday in week 2.

This will culminate in an awards ceremony the following Friday night, where the top 10 films entered into the festival will be screened to the public.

Tickets for the event go on sale from Monday of week 10 this term, so get in quick to secure your attendance at this monumental festival.
